The ageing process happens to us all. The skin loses its elasticity and glow, it starts to wrinkle and sag, and despite what the media might have you believe, it’s not just women who want to do what they can to combat the tell-tale signs of getting older.
Men are just as conscious of their appearance when it comes to spotting the first wrinkle or grey hair, and in recent years, have begun to invest more in grooming products and treatments to tackle this.
Whether it’s TV celebrities, sports stars or A-listers, more and more men are spending time and money on their appearance. We’ve come a long way from a quick trip to the barbers. Whilst aesthetic procedures used to be solely for women, these days there are many different treatments on the market for men, tackling everything from hair loss and sagging skin, to wrinkles and fine lines.
As male aesthetics treatments become increasingly popular, we’re delighted to offer a range of ‘tweakments’ designed specifically with our male clients in mind.
In this month’s blog, Dr Martina Pirklova reveals why her male patients leave her appearing refreshed without looking unnatural, using the latest advanced medical aesthetics at REclinic.
Do we really need ‘his and her’ services, surely, they all do the same thing?
Although we offer treatments for both men and women, there are discreet differences in male procedures when it comes to things like facial proportions, problem areas and desired looks. For this reason, we offer an entirely separate range of male treatments, all of which are carried out by specialists who understand the subtle nuances and have specifically trained in delivering treatments for men.
Focused training in male aesthetics is essential to ensure the treatment will achieve the desired effect. When it comes to something like dermal fillers this is especially true. The placement, type and quantity of the filler have to be just right in order to deliver a chiselled masculine effect as opposed to a softer, more feminine look.

They certainly sound great, but what do they actually do?
Anti-Wrinkle Treatments
The ideal solution for unwanted, deep frown lines, anti-wrinkle treatments, which come in the form of injections, are made from botulinum toxin, a protein able to block the message travelling from a nerve to a muscle. Used by medical professionals to treat a variety of conditions for over 40 years, in cosmetic medicine it is used specifically to tackle wrinkles. Blocking messages from the nerves relaxes the facial muscles, preventing them and the skin, from over-working and creating wrinkles.
The dose is carefully customised to each client’s needs and injected into strategic points of the face, meaning it only targets the muscles that cause wrinkles, leaving other facial muscles untouched. The result is a totally natural look, with no hint that you have ever had a procedure. It really is a great ongoing treatment to subtly combat ageing.
Dermal Fillers
The jawline is one area which really can show your age or any extra weight gain. The ageing process can result in a less defined jaw and the sharp angles of your jawline softening. Skin loses its elasticity and for many men the jawline is one area where they wish they could turn back the clock. Dermal fillers can do just that, replacing the lost volume in this area and delivering natural-looking results, to restore a youthful, chiselled look which is bespoke to men.
The fillers we use are non-permanent and FDA approved. Made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar that occurs naturally in the skin, they act as a cushioning agent, providing hydration and encouraging collagen and elastin synthesis.
They come in a variety of thicknesses, which helps us to achieve a range of effects depending on where the filler is being used. Male dermal fillers often need to be thicker to achieve an immediate sculpted effect in areas like the chin and jawline.
Dermal fillers are not just for the jawline and can be used on other facial areas to soften wrinkles and replace lost volume in certain places that hollow or shadow with age.
Some swelling and bruising can be expected after the procedure, and it takes one to two weeks to settle and achieve optimal results, and the treatment lasts between 12-24 months.
Profhilo
Profhilo is also a really good option for men. It is an injectable moisturiser and hydrates your skin, making it firmer and more ‘bouncy’.
Profhilo is classed as a ‘bio stimulator’ and one of the quickest ways to get a healthy youthful glow to your skin. We recommend two sessions, spaced one month apart, which gives noticeable results for up to 6 months
