What is Radio Frequency (RF) Micro needling and why is everyone talking about it?

Noticeably smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin. For many of us, it’s the ultimate goal when we decide to have an aesthetic treatment, but the worry of pain, a lengthy recovery, or being left looking drastically different still puts many people off.
Well, I’m pleased to tell you that the latest addition to the REclinic family is the answer to all of those fears. It’s a cutting-edge treatment that is quick, with minimal downtime and, we believe, the answer for anyone wanting to revitalise and rejuvenate the appearance of their skin. In fact, we’re the only clinic in Oxfordshire to be offering RF Micro-needling using the incredible Secret RF device from Cutera.
What is RF Microneedling?
Secret RF is a novel fractional radiofrequency (RF) micro-needling system that delivers RF energy into different depths of the skin, including the deeper layers where the treatment will be most beneficial. In short, it is a machine that allows us to tailor a micro-needling treatment to a specific area with such precision that the surrounding skin is left untouched and the procedure can be carried out in as little as 20 minutes.
The award-winning treatment can be used on areas of skin on the face or body to tighten and contour and is the ideal treatment for targeting those common signs of ageing, such as:
- Scarring and stretch marks
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Skin laxity
- Pigmentation and large pores
- Uneven tone and texture
I’m really excited to be able to bring Secret RF to our clients at REclinic. The results it can produce are just phenomenal. Judy Murray, mum to tennis stars Andy and Jamie, recently went public about the results she’s achieved with a similar treatment. The papers were full of her smooth, youthful skin and the fact her sons were commenting on how good she looked – and for anyone who is a mum you’ll know this is high praise indeed!
Sounds amazing, right? Well in my view, the Secret RF system is even better, with results that have to be seen to be believed. But what makes it different and how is it so much more effective than other more traditional, abrasive treatments?
More than just micro needling
The beauty of Secret RF is that it couples a micro-needling process with the power of radiofrequency, and the combination of the two is why you get such great results. The needles themselves are fine and come in two sizes depending on the area of focus., making them incredibly precise. They penetrate the skin at high speed, creating micro-trauma in the area being treated which then activates the skin’s natural healing response, stimulating the collagen. Simultaneously, the radiofrequency part of the treatment heals and tightens the stimulated skin, which is why you get a tighter, more contoured effect. You’re still you, just with a fresher-faced, more youthful appearance.
The Secret RF’s secret weapon, (pardon the pun, but we had to get it in here somewhere!) is that it penetrates deeper into the skin than other treatments which usually just target the surface. Going below the surface layer and depositing energy into the deeper layers of skin, means it is able to revitalise and regenerate tissue where it is most needed, stimulating collagen and making a huge difference to the appearance of your skin.
Let’s get practical, what to expect from the treatment process
The procedure itself is relatively quick, taking around 30 minutes and we would recommend 3-4 sessions, roughly 4-6 weeks apart. During your treatment, you may feel a slight heat and pressure in the area being treated, but it is not a painful process as all clients have a topical numbing cream applied on the specific area before we begin.
Afterwards, the process is much the same as many of our other treatments. You will need to avoid make-up or other cosmetic products for the first few hours. There may be minor redness and swelling in the affected area during the first 12-24 hours, but it should dissipate quickly. The difference with Secret RF is, that it requires no other downtime, meaning you can get back to what you would usually do straight afterwards, no diary rearranging required!
You should start to notice a difference after your second session, but the optimal results will appear around three months after your final treatment. To maintain the result, you will need to have a maintenance treatment every eighteen months, but again, it is relatively quick and painless and acts as a refresher for your finished look.

Instead, when you visit the clinic for your free, initial consultation we will talk you through the pricing structure for your own particular course of treatment. On average though, the first session usually costs from £700 upwards.
